That’s the number one question I keep hearing. Not even from my family or my friends… it’s the question I ask myself. I’ll tell you where I landed, but first let me tell you how we got here:

🌎 When the world shut down and I got sick, I hit my breaking point. For two weeks, I was locked in isolation. During that time, my wife fought to provide for our family by working 80-hour weeks remotely all while taking care of our newborn girl.

Hearing my daughter cry through those walls while I lay there helpless brought me to tears… so I prayed. I had a flashback to years earlier when I was standing on the beach listening to a podcast from Elevation Church. That weekend they gave away thousands of dollars to those who came, challenging them to go out and use it to bless others in the community. It was called the “Bless Back Project.” I remembered in that moment feeling ridiculously inspired… but then a feeling hit me that one day God was going to challenge me and my future family to demonstrate what He can do when we give him 90% of our take-home profit and live off 10%.

Silly, right? Surely God didn’t say that. But while I lay there in my bed, that memory hit me and I felt it was time to get into position.

DID GOD REALLY SAY THAT?

I still wrestle with it. I’m not here to argue. Two HUGE things happened that make me believe it’s what our family is called to do. The 2nd one is the best evidence I could’ve asked for.

1️⃣ I found out God cares more about money than we do. If you Google it, the Bible talks about money in over 2000 verses, compared to 500 verses on prayer and faith. I don’t know about you, but the biggest fear I face when thinking about this is: What if we run out? Which leads me to the evidence in point #2

2️⃣ While laying in bed, maybe it was out of context but I remembered what God said about trusting him with our money-making decisions. Malachai 3:10 “test me in this.” So I did. That day I started giving away 90% of the income I made off a book I co-authored with Wim Hof. | A few months later, our house skyrocketed in value and we sold it for $145,000 more than we bought it for. We gave a large portion away and reinvested to do it again. And guess what… we never ran out. As we continued to give, God continued to give us more to give.

2️⃣ While laying in bed, maybe it was out of context but I remembered what God said about trusting him with our money-making decisions. Malachai 3:10 “test me in this.” So I did. It has now been over 3 years since I lay in that bed. For 3 years God continued to provide. This next nudge was to start a business teaching skills my wife and I have learned to help more people and give away 90% of the take-home profit.

Are we still afraid? Absolutely. But this is the verse that encouraged my faith while making this video: 2 Corinthians 9:6-8

6 Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. 7 Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. 8 And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.”
